A spectacular selection of highlights from our February London Contemporary Art sales are on view today and tomorrow in Doha at Katara Art Center. The exhibition of ‘The Renaissance Portrait from Donatello to Bellini’ at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York isn’t the only place to view great Renaissance portraiture this week: the exhibition for Sotheby’s Old Master Drawings auction opens on the 21st in NY, featuring a 15th century portrait most recently attributed to Florentine artist Piero del Pallaiuolo. Today is the last day to view Joan Miró’s monumental masterpiece 'Peinture' in our NY galleries – the work returns to London tomorrow in advance of the Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale on 8 February. 'Peinture' is part of a critically important series that Miró executed in Paris in 1933, which he viewed as a personal breakthrough: in a letter to Matisse, he described the works as ‘a great success that might mark a red letter day in my career’.
